The Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo Collection

A portable tattoo shop contains just the essentials to tattoo someone anytime, anywhere. In the 1950s and 60s, tattoo artists often used these kits in harbour areas.

To stop sailors from spending all their money in the city, artists set up shop directly in the ports or even on the ships. At times, a tattoo artist woke up hungover at sea and had to find his own way back from the nearest port.

This Delft Blue tile shows a sailor getting tattooed by Henk Schiffmacher himself.
